Alexander Beznes, LCSW completed his education and clinical training entirely at New York City institutions with rich histories and strong ties to the city. He continues to build on his social work background through pro bono psychotherapy with Ukrainian refugees and an ongoing conversational English group for women in Ukraine through PPSC.
Nonprofit Experience
Alexander’s practice is informed by his extensive background in human services. While completing his undergraduate studies in psychology, he sought out experience beyond the classroom, volunteering with local institutions with established legacies in the community.
Alexander videotaped music therapy sessions for children with developmental delays at the Nordoff-Robbins Center for Music Therapy. Watching children find emotional expression and relief through music illuminated the healing power of expressive arts. He also conducted home visits for isolated seniors in the community through Visiting Neighbors. These visits showed him what was possible through community-based care for vulnerable populations.
Professional Background
After graduating college, Alexander worked as a bilingual case manager at Project Renewal’s Third Street Men’s Shelter, a homeless shelter for men with substance abuse issues. His Russian-speaking capacity allowed him to reach men with limited access to care. Over three years of direct contact, he helped men navigate housing placements, drug counseling, and immigration appointments. This drove him to pursue graduate school and develop the clinical skills to help people make lasting change.
After completing his master’s degree, he interned and worked at a community mental health clinic for six years, honing his therapeutic approach with a diverse client population before starting his private practice in 2018. He resumed in-person sessions in the fall of 2022 at his Flatiron office.
Education and Training
Mr. Beznes earned his master’s degree at New York University Silver School of Social Work and his bachelor’s degree at New York University College of Arts and Sciences, graduating summa cum laude with departmental honors and induction into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa National Honors Society.
Alexander has completed the one-year introductory program in relational studies at The Steven Mitchell Relational Study Center. He regularly attends advanced clinical seminars to stay current and continue expanding his scope of practice. Most recently, he completed his EMDR training in Spring 2025 at National Institute for the Psychotherapies.
